Branson ~ October 2007 ~ Day 7

Well, we are still in Branson, we spent the day hanging out at the cabin with a fire - it was pretty cold.  My Sis called with the news that the docs said my great aunt has about 6 weeks.  The cancer was too much when they started the chemo and the chemo was too much for her...it was what got her down. They are going to talk to Hospice on Friday. I told Sis that we would be straight home on Friday.  She told me she would keep me posted.

Branson ~ October 2007 ~ Day 5

We split up today and spent the day shopping.  Rog, Ry, Chunky and FIL went to Bass Pro Shops in Springfield. Me, Sis and MIL hit some shopping centers around town that we normally miss.  I did get a few Christmas gifts today...not many, but at least a start.

We went to Branson Landing and roamed around down there.  MIL bought tickets for the train.  I found Rog's anniversary gift....a nozzle for the gardenhose that works like a fire nozzle.  He thought it was cool.

Branson ~ October 2007 ~ Day 4

It was just yuck here in Branson today.  We went to the Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum.  They also had a scavenger hunt going on for the kiddos. They had a lot of fun with that.  We were going to go to the Titanic exhibit, but it was pretty pricey, and the kiddos don't really know much about it, so we decided to hold off on that.

Branson ~ October 2007 ~ Day 3

We spent the day today at Silver Dollar City.  We had a great time - Rog and I are ride-riders and the kiddos are for the most part.  We talked them into going on Fire in the Hole.  Sis hated it, from the time I started screaming and giggling, she was crying.  Ry liked it ok and we talked him into going again, but I am not sure that he really wanted to go...he did...and laughed the entire time. There were plenty of other rides as well.  One of the smaller roller coasters about did Sis in.  She was prety queasy after that ride.  We rode the rapids - Sis and I got SOAKED!  Rog and Ry were dry, so they wanted to go again...
Sis and Ry made a wax hand - they turned out pretty cool.  Ry was scared to do it at first, but he is glad that he got one.

This was the ride that did her in - her and Ry are there in the middle in the matching shirts...you can see by her face that she was not enjoying it...and it was a pretty small roller coaster...not as bad as some of the others that she had ridden.

Branson ~ October 2007 ~ Day 2

We all got up and around this morning and headed into town.  We really had no plans, just going with the flow...

We stopped at Table Rock Lake - at the Dam Site - the kiddos played on the rock wall, walked a short trail, and then we went down to the water - there were tons of people out on Lake Taneycomo trout fishing.

From there, we went over the dam to the other side where the fish hatchery is and toured the hatchery and fed the fish.

We had lunch out, did a bit of shopping and then hung out at the cabin playing games for the evening.

Oh, and this was a really cool pic that I tried to take of the sun going down on Table Rock Lake...apparently you cannot take a pic in a car with tinted windows...

You can see the sun setting, but the big camera in the pic takes away from it...

Branson ~ October 2007 ~ Day 1

We headed out for Branson this morning...our original plans were to leave early enough to meet up with my friend Melissa, but once again, we ran into a small conflict and were not able to meet - We will one day this side of Heaven Melissa!!

On the way up, we stopped at Grinder's Ferry - part of the Buffalo River.  The river was down, so we walked out to it, and even into it.  I thought it was a bit chilly, but the kiddos waded thru it and had fun.  The temp was right at 80 out, so it wasn't to cold for them to be playing in.

We made it in to Branson, well, not really to Branson - we were staying at Big Cedar, which is about 30 minutes before Branson.  We had dinner at my inlaws cabin and they all went to the welcome bonfire while I stayed and cleaned up. The kiddos will be staying at the cabin with inlaws, Rog and I have a studio room across the lot.

Camping ~ Diamond Mines ~ 2007

SUNDAY ~ Rog got home at his normal time, we finished picking up around the house and packing to get ready to go and we hit the road. We left right at lunch time, so we ran thru McDonalds on the way out and got a burger. It took us almost 3 hours to get there - oh, we were camping at Crater of Diamonds State Park. Once we arrived and got checked in and found our campsite, we unloaded to get to the tent and started putting it up. About the time we got it up and were working on the rain-fly, it started raining - the tent got a little wet, but we got it covered and put the fan in there and it dried out just fine. It was a quick shower and was gone and back again by the time we got out the picnic table awning that we put up - in the rain!!

We tried -and failed miserably- at starting a fire - we had no lighter fluid and most of the kindling we could find was wet.  So, we went to bed with out smores.

MONDAY~ We were woke up at 4:45 this morning to banging of the trash cans, and I asked Rog why were they picking up trash so early? He told me he thought it was probably a coon getting in the trash next to us.  We got up to make a potty run and sure enough, the trash can next to us was tipped. We got up this morning and gathered our digging tools and headed to the diamond mine. It is a 37 acre field of dirt...that you can dig for diamonds in.  We found us a spot close to one of the few shade trees and started digging. I thought the kiddos would like the digging, but they got bored rather fast.

We were out there for a couple of hours and Ry found a clear quartz and I found 2 small pieces of calcite.  It was extemely hot, so we went back to the campsite and the kiddos played on the trail by our tent. They also did a bit of bike riding It rained again on us as we were cooking dinner (PTL for our gas cooktop!- if not for it, we probably wouldn't have eaten). We didn't even attempt a fire tonight - just right to bed with out smores - again...

TUESDAY ~ It was cloudy and rainy all day, so we stayed close to the campsite, we did walk the trail that was by our campsite and another trail that was on the way in. One of the exciting things that we found - animal prints - on our table cloth-

On the one by the campsite, Ry found a teeny frog - then they found tons of them!  We carried them back to the site to observe for a while, then turned them back into the woods.

This is a 5 gallon bucket - and a few of the many teeny frogs.

The other trail was a Wildlife Observation Blind -it started raining on us about half-way to the blind - it was a covered blind, so once we got there, we waited the down pour out!  When we first got there, there was an armadillo roaming the edge of the woods, but we must have been to loud or he didn't like the rain one, because we only saw him for a few minutes.

After the down pour, we headed back to the campsite and started dinner. As we were cleaning up from dinner, it started raining again. We got all cleaned up and packed away and hit the tent.  This was about 6:00pm.  While we were stuck in the tent, sitting in the middle as not to touch the sides of the already leaking tent, I read to them from chapter books.  I read most of Pirates Past Noon, all of Night of the Ninjas and most of Captian Underpants (Rog helped me with that one - my throat was starting to hurt). It was then 9:00, so we headed out in the rain to the bathroom for the night, then off to bed.  Rog and I woke up at 1:00 am to the pouring rain - and we woke the kiddos up and made a midnight potty run.  It was still raining when we woke up at 8:00, but it stopped soon and was hot and dry all day Wednesday.

WEDNESDAY ~ We gave the kiddos the option of digging again or the water park - beleive it or not, it was actually a hard decision for them.  In the end, the water park won out.

We were there when it opened at noon and stayed for a few hours, went back to the camp and let the kiddos eat whatever they wanted and then back to the pool.  It cost quite a bit to get in and swim, so Rog and the kiddos paid to swim and I had to pay to hang out. I read one of the 2 books I took while they were playing in the water.  Once the pool closed, we went back to the campsite and took showers and got cleaned up the best we could, then fixed a dinner of pancakes and bacon! YUM!  As we attepmted the fire for the final nght, some firends of the family showed up and were camping 2 sites down from us.  They had lighter fluid!! Success!! We have fire!! They joined us for some smores and a chat around the campfire - he is also a ff, so he and Rog always have something to talk about!  The kiddos were tired, and they went to bed while we were still chating, but we weren''t far behind them.

THURSDAY~ I am sad to leave, but I am so ready to go home!! We got up, unloaded (things were thrown and packed in due to the rain) and reloaded the back of the Tahoe, packed up all the camping boxed and were down to just taking the tent down when we woke the kiddos up at 10:00am.  We got everything packed up and headed for home!

Myrtle Beach Trip - May 2007 - Day 7

This was the longest day of the trip - from Greenville, SC to our house was 11 hours...all the way across the long state of Tennessee...we were ready to be home, so that made it seem even longer...

We went thru a tunnel in North Carolina.

About half way thru TN, we stopped at a rest area and had a PB&J lunch, then they crashed...

Yes, she is sideways in here seat - and she slept that way for a good while.

He slept pretty good for a while as well.

When we finally got home (about 7:00 pm) sitting and waiting on our front porch was a sweet baby puppy.  We are not sure where she came from or how she got there, but she was very thirsty and also pretty hungry.  Rog went and got some puppy food - she is about 6 weeks - and I guess we are keeping her.  We asked some of the nieghbors, and no one has ever seen her before.  I will post some pictures of her as soon as I get the one from vacation off of my camera.

Myrtle Beach Trip - May 2007 - Day 6

Our last morning at the beach - we got up early to go watch the sun rise again...

Then we packed up and hit the road - headed to Greenville, SC to meet some of my internet friends at the Greenville Zoo.

This is Patricia, Lorna and I. We are all in a MSN group together - have been for a while, and we finally got to meet one another.  And here are all of our kiddos....(Patricia posted a different one of them on her blog - I linked to her blog thru her name).

On the bear - Ry, Sis, Sawyer and Isaiah (not sure which is which - correct me Lorna or Patricia and I will fix it). Standing in front is Vicki and Ansley. They hit it off and really got along great.  After the zoo, they played at the park for a while, then Lorna and her hubby showed us how to get to WalMart, then we grabbed a bite to eat at Fridays. Since they had us totally lost, they then had to show us back to our hotel!!

Here's another one of the boys at the zoo - not sure who is who up there....

And the girls ...Vicki was done with the picture taking at this point!!

And one more - Lorna and I after dinner.

Myrtle Beach Trip - May 2007 - Day 5

We pulled the curtains closed in hopes of everyone sleeping in this morning, but it didn't work all that great...they were both up by 7:00 am, so we got on with our day - which consisted of some boogie boarding - this is Ry -

and some digging in the sand...

and running from the monster waves that were coming in...

After all the sand and sun, we went to the room for some lunch and a shower - the combination of sunscreen and sand makes me ill....ugh....then we visited the South Carolina Children's Museum.

it was small and kinda cheesy, but the kiddos liked it, so I guess that is what counts....

After there, we went to East of Chicago Pizza - it was pretty good - kinda like a Chuck E Cheese - but much better pizza - it was buffet.  The games were no good though - when you are used to 1 token per game and the games there were costing 8 and 10 tokens....eeek...it goes fast like that...

The kiddos got to make their own pizza.

Another full day and we were all tired...

Myrtle Beach Trip - May 2007 - Day 4

We woke the kiddos up early to go down to the beach and watch the sun come up.

It had clouds in front of it at the horizion line, but it was still pretty - that is Rog, Ry and Sis out along the water...

After the sun came up, we went to Broadway at the Beach for the day. Our first stop there was Ripley's Aquarium (it was neat, but we had just visited the one in Gatlinburg, and it was quite a bit bigger) ~ then from there - on thru the shops and such at Broadway.

One of the things we found there that was pretty neat - RideMakerz - it was along the same lines as BuildABear, but it was custom hot rods...both kiddos made one- Sis a pink something and Ry a firetruck - he chose his to be jacked-up, hers was street. They had fun making thier cars.

Broadway was very neat, and we did a bit of shopping...but the kiddos and I were beat after that...not to beat to go to the NASCAR Speed Park though!!

Now we are truly tired - back to the room for the night.  We even close all the curtians so that the sun cannot wake us in the morning.

Myrtle Beach Trip - May 2007 - Day 3

Sunrise was at 6:11am - this was taken about 5:45 am -

Then as it started to rise, I took a few more -

I actually got up by myself and went out on the balcony to watch ~Rog ended up joining me out there and we watched the sun rise together.  All of the curtains in the room were up, so the kiddos would be able to see it come up if they woke up.  They were sleeping good, so I went back to bed - this was taken from my bed -

We spent some more time out on the water today -  We buried Ry -

Played out in the ocean -

And spent some time in the pool -

Then it was time for bed - this was the place we stayed - with the cresent moon shining beside it-

Myrtle Beach Trip - May 2007 - Day 2

We left Georgia pretty early - we were on the road by 8:00 am. We stopped at the South Carolina welcome center -

They ran around and got some energy out, then back in the car - time for a rest....

Not much longer then -here we are....

Here was one of the views from our balcony -

We had to get wet - me and the kiddos walking in the water -

Ry was a bit scared at first, but he ended up having tons of fun...

Sis wasn't scared at all the first day...

Here is one of Rog and I -that I took -

We were all tired - so after our little splash thru the edge of the water, we were ready to crash for the night.
